It's always a pleasure to meet old friends who share your passions - both for photography and for business.  As a Montreal photographer, it's a fabulous opportunity to catch up with what's happening in the industry.  At a conference like this, you get to rub shoulders with some of the top speakers and educators in the industry. And I wouldn't miss out at any cost. Shutterfest 2016 opening session at Union Station Hotel by Montreal photographer A few shots from the hands on shoots I did. Since I didn't bring much photography gear with me due to a back injury, I only took a handful of shots ...

The Photography Conference Where You Shoot. Learn. Party. Review by Montreal Portrait Photographer

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn. Benjamin Franklin It’s well known that creatives are really bad at doing business.  As a portrait photographer, I’m not an exception, even though I hail from a family of entrepreneurs, and my father is by far one of the most enterprising men I’ve seen (besides Salvatore Cincotta of course, who’s just Sal to me)!  More about Sal in a bit, but coming back to education - every year, I take a number of online workshops to improve both my technical skills as a portrait photographer as well as my ...

The Transformation

A cold and snowy day is a good time for a fashion portraits session with a gorgeous mother-daughter duo.  We started with a complete makeover for them both. I didn't want to have too much makeup on an already gorgeous pre-teen, so we kept the makeup to a minimum for her, but wanted a full-on glamour look for mom.             mother and daughter portrait session by Montreal Portrait Photographer

There's something exciting about a before and after session. As a Montreal portrait photographer, these types of sessions put the spring in my step and if need be, I can be ready to shoot at the crack of dawn! And why not? I'm very passionate about making my clients look and feel beautiful. And it's so rewarding to see them connect with an oft-forgotten side of themselves.   Before and after session Before and after session More

Why you need professional LinkedIn Photos

It's a great idea to update LinkedIn photos from time to time. It's even better if you can do it every couple of years. If you're looking for new job opportunities, it's extremely important that you update your profile pic. Prospective employers place a lot of importance on that first impression. Additionally, as I've reiterated in earlier posts, it's imperative you have a good professional photo on LinkedIn. The last profile a recruiter or hiring manager will click on is a profile with no photos. The second worse thing is they'll pass up a profile because it has a badly lit, blurry and really unprofessional looking photo. Studies have been done to show that profiles with no photos or unprofessional photos are overlooked all the ...

Quick and Easy Executive Headshot Session

This was possibly the quickest executive headshot session, ever!  This handsome gentleman was such a  pleasure to work with that the session was a breeze!  He came impeccably dressed... not a single thing out of place and brought his change of jacket on a hanger. All I had to do was find out what exactly he needed to do with the images from the session and we were off to a great start. Men's Fashion Portrait Session in Montreal

This men's fashion portrait session is a throwback to two years ago when I photographed this gorgeous guy during his trip to Montreal.  He's a colleague who was visiting from Germany for a month.  I figured that it would be nice to get some practice posing men, since I mostly work with women. He was an absolute pleasure to work with - he was a real sport and didn't mind posing for over 2 hours. He was the perfect European model one could hope for!  Saying which, I have to say that he's not a professional model.  He has the looks of a model and with the right directions, he could very well be a sought after men's fashion portrait model!

Do You Have a Professional Business Headshot Photo on LinkedIn?

Is your LinkedIn profile picture sending the right message to the right people?  Is it badly lit and badly posed?  Is your picture at least a few years old if not ancient?  If you answered yes to at least one of these questions, you need a professional business headshot photographer to get you a proper profile photo. It's one of those things you don't think about, but that can either make you stand out, or get you pushed aside by recruiters or your industry peers - yes, I'm talking about your LinkedIn profile picture.  And if people aren't looking at your profile, you're unfortunately not going to get ahead of the others. Even if you're not actively seeking a job, it's important to look professional here. ...

Bridal boudoir session

Posing women during a bridal boudoir session is a really difficult task because we all come in different shapes and sizes.  But it's easier when you have clothes to cover up some of the imperfections most of us have.  However, what do you do when you don't have a lot of clothes to use as camouflage?  This thought wasn't mine - this was a light bulb moment for me when one of the photographers I met at the conference last month told me this because I was struggling to understand why this genre of photography was so challenging.
